Basar MLA Inaugurates Market Shed and CSC in Leparada

 

Leparada, April 13:

In a significant push toward grassroots development, Basar MLA Nyabi Jini Dirchi inaugurated a Wayside Market Shed at Chisi-Chiku village and a Panchayat Bhawan-cum-Common Service Center (CSC) at Chisi-Ichi Gram Panchayat under the 12-Dari Zilla Constituency.

The newly established facilities are aimed at strengthening the socio-economic framework of rural communities in the region. The Wayside Market Shed is expected to provide a dedicated platform for village women to market their agricultural and allied products, thereby enhancing household incomes and promoting economic self-reliance.

Meanwhile, the Panchayat Bhawan and CSC will function as a hub for local governance and public service delivery, enabling streamlined developmental planning and improved access to essential government services for residents.

The inauguration programme was attended by several dignitaries, including Nyamar Riba (ZPC Leparada), Karnya Bam Chiram (ZPM), Dr. Nyato Doji (CO Dari Circle), Ejum Angu (ADC-cum-DPDO, Basar), Jonya Basar (President, BJP Leparada District), and Linmi Chisi (GPC Chisi-Ichi). The event also saw participation from various Heads of Departments, BJP karyakartas, and members of the local community.

The strong turnout and enthusiastic participation of villagers highlighted a shared commitment to inclusive development and progress across Leparada district.

Bomdila Hospital Performs Life-Saving Emergency Surgery

 

Bomdila, April 13:

In a notable display of medical efficiency and teamwork, Bomdila Zonal General Hospital successfully carried out a life-saving emergency surgery on a critically ill patient suffering from acute intestinal obstruction accompanied by gastric perforation.

The patient, referred from the Community Health Centre in Dirang, arrived in a serious condition with intense abdominal pain, swelling, and respiratory distress. After prompt clinical assessment, doctors confirmed the need for immediate surgical intervention.

Despite operational challenges, including limited manpower and difficult weather conditions typical of the region, the surgical team acted swiftly. The operation was led by Dr. Ani Siram and Dr. Tomeru Rina, who performed a Graham’s patch repair procedure to address the perforation.

They were assisted by a dedicated OT team comprising nursing staff Pema Chuki, Rashmi, Kanchan, Unya, along with OT assistant Lobsang, whose coordinated efforts ensured the success of the procedure.

Hospital officials reported that the patient is now stable and responding well to post-operative care under close medical supervision.

The successful surgery highlights the growing capacity of Bomdila Zonal General Hospital to handle complex medical cases locally, reducing dependency on referrals outside the district and strengthening healthcare delivery in the region.

Arunachal Athletes Felicitated for Tribal Games 2026 Success

 


Itanagar, April 13:

Arunachal Pradesh athletes were accorded a warm reception and felicitated by the state government following their commendable performance at the Khelo India Tribal Games 2026, marking a proud moment for the state’s sporting community.

The flag-in and felicitation ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Pema Khandu, along with Member of Parliament Tapir Gao, Secretary Sports & Youth Affairs Abu Tayeng, and other dignitaries. Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister praised the athletes for their dedication, discipline, and resilience, stating that their achievements reflect the immense potential of the state’s youth. He also reiterated the government’s commitment to providing better infrastructure, training facilities, and opportunities to nurture sporting talent across Arunachal Pradesh.

The state contingent delivered an outstanding performance, securing a total of 11 medals, including 6 gold, 1 silver, and 4 bronze. With this achievement, Arunachal Pradesh finished 5th among 30 States and Union Territories and emerged as the best-performing state from the Northeast region.

A total of 77 athletes represented the state in disciplines such as athletics, archery, football, weightlifting, and wrestling. The athletes showcased exceptional skill and determination throughout the competition. Notably, Ruba Tadu and Lalu Taku clinched gold medals in weightlifting, playing a crucial role in boosting the state’s medal tally. Several other athletes also delivered commendable performances, contributing to the overall success of the contingent.

The inaugural edition of the Games was held in Chhattisgarh from March 25 to April 3, 2026, across venues in Raipur, Jagdalpur, and Surguja. The event witnessed participation from over 3,800 athletes from across the country and featured seven competitive sports along with two demonstration events highlighting indigenous and traditional tribal sports.

The felicitation ceremony not only celebrated the medal winners but also recognized the efforts of coaches, support staff, and officials who played a vital role in preparing the athletes for the prestigious event. The success of Arunachal Pradesh at the Games stands as a testament to the growing sports culture in the state and signals a promising future for its athletes on national and international platforms.

Centenarian Wakham Tangjang Passes Away at 101 in Borduria

 

Borduria, April 13:

Borduria village in Tirap district is mourning the loss of Wakham Tangjang, its oldest male resident, who passed away on April 12 at the age of 101 following a stroke.

Widely regarded as a living archive of Nocte heritage, Tangjang was known for preserving and sharing the oral traditions, history, and cultural identity of Borduria and its surrounding Chhana villages. His storytelling and oratory skills made him a revered figure across generations.

He is survived by his wife Ponglee Tangjang; sons Ngaasah Tangjang, Tenyok Tangjang, Teba Tangjang, the late Tekhong Tangjang, Wanglo Tangjang, and Tesah Tangjang; and daughter Lomnya Tangjang Songtheng.

Condolences poured in from several public representatives, including Wangki Lowang, Wanglin Lowangdong, and Chakat Aboh. They described his passing as “the end of an era,” noting that the community has lost not just its eldest member but also a guardian of its traditions and cultural memory.

Villagers remembered him as a wise elder and guiding force who inspired efforts to preserve indigenous identity. People from across Tirap district and beyond gathered to pay their respects, offering prayers and floral tributes.

The final rites were conducted on April 13 at Borduria village in accordance with Nocte customs and traditions.



Three Held with Suspected Heroin at Likabali Gate in Lower Siang

Likabali, April 12:

In a sustained crackdown on drug trafficking, the Lower Siang District Police apprehended three individuals in two separate operations at the Likabali check gate and recovered suspected heroin from their possession.

In the first incident, during a routine checking operation, police intercepted an individual identified as Minken Taket, a resident of Kaying in Siang district. Upon search, suspected heroin was recovered from his possession. In this connection, a case has been registered at Likabali Police Station vide Case No. 10/2026 under Section 21(a) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

In a separate operation on the same day at around 8:00 PM, on-duty personnel intercepted an Aalo-bound private vehicle based on suspicion. Following due legal procedures and in the presence of an Executive Magistrate, a search was conducted, leading to the recovery of approximately 4 grams of suspected heroin. 

Two individuals, identified as Kage Ori (26), a resident of Igo Yami Village, Aalo, and Liba Bagra (25), a resident of Higi Bagra Village, Aalo, were apprehended in connection with the seizure.

A separate case has been registered at Likabali Police Station vide Case No. 11/2026 under Section 21(a) of the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway.

Police officials reiterated their zero-tolerance stance against drug-related offences and urged the public to cooperate by sharing credible information to help curb illegal drug activities in the region.

Arunachal Trio Wins Three Golds at South Asian Ju-Jitsu Championship 2026

Arunachal Pradesh brought pride to the nation as three of its ju-jitsu athletes, representing India, delivered an exceptional performance at the 3rd South Asian Ju-Jitsu Championship 2026, which concluded in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on Sunday. The athletes not only secured three gold medals but also added multiple silver medals to India’s tally, showcasing remarkable skill, discipline, and versatility across categories.

Langkung Duta Bulang, Langkung Adam, and Byabang Bhupai emerged as the standout performers, each clinching a gold medal in their respective events. Bulang secured gold in newaza under the men’s below 62 kg category, while Adam claimed gold in the fighting system under the women’s below 48 kg category. Bhupai added to the golden success by winning the fighting system event in the men’s below 52 kg category.

In addition to their gold medal triumphs, all three athletes demonstrated consistent excellence by also winning silver medals in alternate formats. Bulang earned a silver medal in the fighting system, complementing his gold in newaza. Adam, after winning gold in the fighting system, secured silver in newaza. Similarly, Bhupai, who clinched gold in the fighting system, went on to bag a silver medal in newaza, underlining the trio’s all-round capability in both major formats of the sport.

Further contributing to Arunachal Pradesh’s impressive medal haul, Dongda Taduk secured a bronze medal in newaza in the men’s below 77 kg category, adding another layer of achievement to the state’s performance at the championship.

The achievements of these athletes received widespread appreciation, with Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein publicly congratulating Langkung Duta Bulang, Langkung Adam, and Byabang Bhupai for their outstanding success. He lauded their exceptional performance across both fighting system and newaza categories, stating that their accomplishments reflect immense dedication, discipline, and an indomitable fighting spirit. He also extended his congratulations to Dongda Taduk for securing a bronze medal and contributing to the state’s success.

Crime Review Meeting Held in Pakke-Kessang, Focus on Faster Case Disposal


Pakke Kessang, April 11:

A Crime Review Meeting was conducted at the office of the Superintendent of Police in Pakke-Kessang district to assess law enforcement progress and address key challenges.

Swati Singh, Superintendent of Police, chaired the meeting and carried out a detailed review of all pending cases. She stressed the importance of timely investigation and speedy disposal in line with newly implemented criminal laws.

During the session, emphasis was placed on the effective use of digital platforms such as e-Sakshya, e-Summon, and the Cyber Police Portal to enhance efficiency and transparency in policing. Special attention was also given to the proper handling and disposal of cases registered under the NDPS Act.

To strengthen support systems for women, the SP directed the Officers-in-Charge of Lemmi and Seijosa Police Stations to establish dedicated Women Help Desks at their respective stations.

The meeting was attended by the DySP (HQ), Reserve Inspector, Officers-in-Charge of Lemmi and Seijosa Police Stations, along with all Investigating Officers of the district.

Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein has been conferred the prestigious Brahmaputra Gaurav Samman at a national-level ceremony held in New Delhi.

The award was presented by the Hon’ble Vice-President of India, C. P. Radhakrishnan, during the silver jubilee celebrations of the Indigenous Tribal Intermediate Training Institute (ITITI) at Doon Sanskriti School, Dehradun. The event took place at Bharat Mandapam and witnessed the presence of dignitaries and representatives from across the country.

The Brahmaputra Gaurav Samman is a prestigious national-level award dedicated to honouring individuals who have made exceptional contributions towards preserving and promoting the indigenous heritage of Northeast India. It recognises efforts aimed at safeguarding tribal faiths, languages, and cultural traditions, while also encouraging a balanced approach to modern development. The award serves as a platform to highlight the resilient spirit of the region and is often presented at high-profile national events such as the ITITI silver jubilee celebrations.


Expressing gratitude, Mein said he felt deeply honoured and humbled to receive the recognition. He stated that the award is not merely a personal achievement but a tribute to the resilient and vibrant tribal communities of Arunachal Pradesh. He highlighted that their rich heritage, wisdom, and enduring values continue to inspire generations.

Dedicating the honour to the people of the state, Mein acknowledged the efforts of individuals and communities working tirelessly to preserve indigenous faith, culture, and languages. He emphasised the importance of maintaining cultural identity while embracing opportunities for growth and development.

Reaffirming his commitment, Mein stated that Arunachal Pradesh will continue to pursue a path where progress strengthens cultural roots, empowers the youth, and safeguards the unique identity of its tribal communities.

Minor Rescued from Rajasthan; Accused Held in Itanagar Case

 


Itanagar, April 12:

In a major breakthrough, Capital Police successfully rescued a 15-year-old minor girl from Rajasthan and arrested the accused in connection with WPS Itanagar Case No. 84/25 registered under Section 137(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

According to police, the accused, Dilawar Hussain (25), a resident of Banswara, Rajasthan, allegedly contacted the minor through Snapchat. Over time, he developed a relationship with her via social media, reportedly lured her away from home, and later engaged in physical relations.

Following sustained human and technical intelligence efforts, the victim was traced to Banswara and safely rescued. The accused was apprehended on April 9, 2026, from Dungarpur district, Rajasthan, with the assistance of local police.

The rescue and arrest operation was carried out by a team led by Sub-Inspector Bamang Yakum, along with Constables Arun Singh, Ogo Pertin, and Lady Constable Arty Degu, under the supervision of SDPO Itanagar Chera Saban and Inspector Sonam Rina, Officer-in-Charge of WPS Itanagar.

Capital Police has urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant about children’s use of smartphones and social media platforms, highlighting the growing risk of online grooming and exploitation of minors.

Reaffirming its commitment, Capital Police stated that ensuring the safety and protection of women and children remains a top priority.

Asha Bhosle Dies at 92 in Mumbai

 

Mumbai, April 12:

Legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle, widely regarded as one of the greatest voices in Indian music, has passed away at the age of 92.

She was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital on Saturday after experiencing cardiac and respiratory complications. According to sources, the veteran singer had been unwell for the past few months and was brought to the hospital in a critical condition.

She was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on Saturday night, where she later breathed her last.

Born on September 8, 1933, in Sangli, Maharashtra, Asha Bhosle was the daughter of renowned classical singer and stage actor Dinananth Mangeshkar. She began her musical journey at a very young age and entered the film industry in the 1940s alongside her elder sister, Lata Mangeshkar.

Despite early struggles and stiff competition, she carved a unique identity for herself with her distinctive voice and ability to adapt to changing musical styles. Over the decades, she became known for her bold experimentation, lending her voice to iconic compositions by legendary music directors and creating unforgettable songs that remain popular across generations.

Asha Bhosle’s illustrious career spanned more than seven decades, during which she recorded thousands of songs in multiple Indian and international languages. From soulful ghazals and classical melodies to peppy Bollywood numbers and modern pop tracks, her versatility set her apart as one of the most dynamic singers in the industry.

Her immense contribution to Indian music earned her several prestigious honours, including the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, multiple National Film Awards, and numerous lifetime achievement recognitions both in India and abroad.

Her passing marks the end of an era in Indian music, leaving behind a timeless legacy that will continue to inspire artists and music lovers for generations.

MLA Pesi Jilen Announces ₹5 Lakh Aid for Yapi Potom’s Family

In a strong gesture of solidarity and support, Pesi Jilen, MLA of 27-Liromoba ST Assembly Constituency, has extended unwavering assistance to the bereaved family of Late Yapi Potom, who was tragically murdered on April 7 in an alleged act committed by Daksen Riram.

Recognizing the gravity of the loss, particularly as the deceased was the sole breadwinner of the family, Jilen announced an annual financial assistance of ₹5 lakh for the victim’s children. The initiative is aimed at ensuring their long-term security, education, and overall future, especially considering that the deceased leaves behind two minor children.

The MLA assured that this support would continue for as long as he remains in office, underlining his personal commitment to the welfare of the affected family.

Expressing deep concern over the emotional and psychological well-being of the children—who reportedly witnessed the horrific incident—Jilen stressed the urgent need for professional counselling and psychological care.
