Pasighat, June 21:

In a major boost to women-led entrepreneurship and rural livelihoods, Minister Ojing Tasing on sunday inaugurated the She Shed (Livelihood Market Shed) at Pasighat, a dedicated marketplace developed by the Panchayat Department, East Siang.

The facility has been created by renovating and repurposing the erstwhile Anchal Samiti Market Shed, transforming a long-neglected public asset into a vibrant community space designed to support local entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihood generation.

The inauguration programme was attended by Pasighat East MLA Er. Tapi Darang, Zilla Parishad Chairpersons (ZPCs) of East Siang, Siang and Upper Siang districts, the District Project Development Officer (DPDO) of East Siang, ZPMs, the Chief Councillor and Deputy Chief Councillor of Pasighat Municipal Council (PMC), along with members of various Self-Help Groups (SHGs).

Developed under the Scheme of Operation and Repair (SOR) at a cost of ₹10 lakh, with an additional allocation of ₹3 lakh from the Own Source Revenue (OSR) of the Zilla Parishad, the project was implemented in convergence with the Arunachal State Rural Livelihoods Mission (ArSRLM).

The Livelihood Market Shed has been established to provide SHGs across East Siang district with a permanent platform to showcase and market their products. The facility will enable women entrepreneurs to sell a wide range of locally produced items, including handloom and handicraft products, bakery goods, processed foods, agricultural produce, and other value-added local products.

Officials stated that the initiative is aimed at improving market access for SHGs, increasing product visibility, and creating sustainable income-generating opportunities for rural women. By providing a dedicated marketplace, the facility is expected to strengthen local value chains and encourage greater participation of women in economic activities.

Speaking on the occasion, the dignitaries described the project as more than just a market shed, emphasizing that it represents a platform for enterprise, self-reliance, and economic empowerment. They noted that the initiative reflects the spirit of the Government’s “Lakhpati Didi” vision, which seeks to transform women into successful entrepreneurs and improve household incomes through sustainable livelihood opportunities.

The newly inaugurated She Shed is expected to serve as a hub for local commerce and innovation, nurturing the aspirations of women entrepreneurs while contributing to the overall socio-economic development of the region.

Pasighat Police Arrest Gumin Mize in Rape Case

Pasighat, June 18:

Renowned anti-drug activist Gumin Mize was arrested by Pasighat Police on Thursday in connection with an alleged rape case registered at the Women Police Station (WPS), Pasighat. Following his arrest, he was produced before a local court, which remanded him to 14 days of judicial custody pending investigation.

According to sources, Mize was apprehended at around 2 pm and subsequently presented before the competent court. The arrest followed a First Information Report (FIR) lodged by a woman accusing him of rape, criminal intimidation using a firearm, sexual harassment, and exploitation of her vulnerable circumstances while her husband was undergoing treatment at a rehabilitation centre.

As per the complaint, the woman had approached Mize in April seeking assistance regarding her husband, who was allegedly admitted to a rehabilitation centre with the help of members of the Arunachal Pradesh Anti-Drug Warriors (APADW).

The complainant alleged that on April 29, Mize took her in his vehicle to a secluded location where he sexually assaulted her against her will. She further claimed that he threatened her with a pistol and subsequently exerted pressure on her regarding matters connected to her husband's release from the rehabilitation centre.

Based on the allegations, Pasighat Police registered a case under Sections 64(1), 75(2), 115(2), 351(3), and 12(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, along with Section 25(1B)(a) of the Arms Act.

Meanwhile, concerns have reportedly been raised regarding the handling of proceedings during the initial stage of the investigation. According to sources, the accused was present in court for production proceedings while the survivor's statement was being recorded before a magistrate.

The latest development comes amid another criminal case already pending against Mize. He was arrested on May 15, 2026, in connection with Bihpuria Police Station Case No. 72/2026, registered under Sections 329(1), 329(2), 117(1), 117(2), 109, 312, 324, 70, and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 27(1) and 27(2) of the Arms Act.

Mize had reportedly secured regular bail in that case only a few days ago and had resumed his anti-drug awareness and social activities. Updates regarding his ongoing social work and campaigns against drug abuse were being regularly shared on social media prior to his latest arrest.

Police officials have not yet issued a detailed statement regarding the progress of the investigation. Further inquiries are underway.
