Dr. Lige Basar, Three Others Killed in Assam Crash

 


Khetri/Itanagar, May 29: 

A tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area on Friday claimed the lives of four people from Arunachal Pradesh, including a senior veterinary officer, his wife, and two medical students, triggering widespread condolences across the state.

The deceased have been identified as Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor district and president of the Basar Aao Welfare Association (BAWA), his wife Kunga Doima Basar, their son Gemar Basar, and Karma S. Khirmey, Gemar's friend and fellow MBBS student.

According to traffic officials, the accident occurred between 11:30 a.m. and noon when the Mahindra Bolero (AR-01Q-0042) in which they were travelling reportedly collided with a truck parked along National Highway 27 in Assam's Khetri area. All four occupants of the vehicle died at the scene.

Family sources said Dr. Basar and his wife were accompanying Gemar and Karma to Guwahati, from where the two students were scheduled to return to Tripura to continue their MBBS studies. The family was reportedly travelling towards Guwahati when the accident occurred.

Condolence messages poured in from public representatives, organisations and members of the public following news of the accident.

Among them was Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, who expressed grief over the incident.

"Deeply pained by the tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area that claimed the lives of Dr. Lige Basar and his wife Smt. Kunga Doima, including two young medical students.

The unimaginable tragedy leaves every one of us with profound grief and heartbreak. The news is truly painful beyond words.

My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members, friends and colleagues. In this difficult time, I pray that they find the strength and courage to bear this irreparable loss."

Similarly, Toko Tatung, MLA of the 16th Yachuli Assembly Constituency, also shared a condolence message, describing Dr. Basar as a dedicated public servant who worked sincerely for the welfare of farming and livestock communities.

"Deeply saddened by the tragic and sudden demise of Late Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor District, alongside his beloved family members, Late Gemar Basar and Late Kunga Doima Basar, in a heartbreaking road accident.

Dr. Basar was a dedicated public servant who worked sincerely for the welfare of our farming and livestock communities. Losing him and his family in such a cruel manner is an unimaginable tragedy and an irreparable loss for the entire district.

I extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family in this dark hour of grief. I pray the Almighty grants them the strength and courage to endure this profound pain."

In the aftermath of the accident, several Arunachali student organisations based in Guwahati came forward to assist in the transportation of the mortal remains to Arunachal Pradesh.

Expressing profound grief and sorrow over the incident, the student bodies conveyed their condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for strength and courage during the difficult time.

The mortal remains of the deceased family members were sent to Arunachal Pradesh with the assistance and support of the Guwahati Arunachal Students' Union.

Members and representatives from Team GGSU, ATSUG, ADISUG, AMSUG, ALSUG, ANSUG and GAMSU were present and extended their cooperation during the process.

The accident has triggered widespread mourning across Arunachal Pradesh, with condolences continuing to pour in from community-based organisations, student bodies, public representatives, government officials and members of the public.

Police have initiated an investigation to ascertain the circumstances leading to the accident. Authorities are examining the sequence of events surrounding the collision on NH-27 in Khetri.
