CM Pema Khandu Felicitates Tawang’s Akbari Khatoon for National Gold at WPC Powerlifting Championship 2026



Tawang, February 18, 2026:

Chief Minister Pema Khandu met and congratulated Ms Akbari Khatoon from Tawang district for winning the National Gold Medal in the 56 kg category at the WPC National Powerlifting Championship 2026 held in Noida. Born and brought up in Tawang and fluent in Monpa, Khatoon secured the top podium finish with impressive lifts, 110 kg in squat, 42.5 kg in bench press, and 117.5 kg in deadlift.

The Chief Minister praised her dedication and perseverance, noting her journey from District Champion to State Strong Woman and now National Champion as an inspiration for aspiring athletes across Arunachal Pradesh. Her victory has also earned her the opportunity to represent India at the international level, bringing pride to the state and highlighting the growing strength of sports talent from the region.

Dr Menuka Kadu Receives Overall Best Presentation Award at International FOW 2026 Conference



Bali, Feb 10, 2026

Dr Menuka Kadu, Assistant Professor and Head of the Social Work Department at Arunachal Pradesh University (APU), Pasighat, has won the Overall Best Presentation Award at the 9th International Conference on The Future of Women (FOW 2026) held in Bali, Indonesia, from February 9–10.

She received the honour for her research paper, “Silenced Bodies, Formed Identities: Tribal Girls’ Menstrual Experiences in Northeast India,” recognised for its strong methodology and contribution to feminist research. The study examines how menstrual stigma shapes gender socialisation among girls from the Galo, Adi and Idu Mishmi communities.

The conference brought together more than 1,200 delegates from 50 countries under the theme “Feminist Perspectives in GLocal Contexts.” Dr Kadu was the only representative from Northeast India, presenting regional perspectives alongside international scholars. The event was organised by the International Institute of Knowledge Management (TIIKM) and included discussions on gender-based violence, economic justice and women’s leadership.

Engineer Yater Padu Doji Becomes Arunachal Pradesh’s First Woman Chief Engineer

 


In a landmark development for the state’s engineering and administrative landscape, Er. Yater Padu Doji has been promoted to the rank of Chief Engineer in the Power Department, becoming the first woman to hold this prestigious position. A native of Darka village in West Siang district, her elevation represents a significant stride toward greater representation of women in senior technical leadership.


An alumna of Assam Engineering College, Jalukbari, Er. Doji holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electrical Engineering. She began her professional journey in 1993 as an Assistant Engineer and has since built a distinguished career spanning more than three decades. Rising steadily through the ranks, she served as Executive Engineer in 2003 and was promoted to Superintending Engineer in 2022, earning recognition for her technical expertise, disciplined work ethic, and effective handling of key departmental responsibilities.


Er. Yater Padu Doji, wife of Advocate Kardak Doji, is widely regarded for her professionalism and perseverance. Her promotion to Chief Engineer is expected to further strengthen the state’s power infrastructure initiatives while inspiring aspiring women professionals to pursue leadership roles in engineering and public service.

Former Tura College Principal Biana W Momin Wins JFW Best Debutant Award in Malayalam Cinema

 


Biana W Momin from Meghalaya has created history by becoming the first Garo woman to enter Malayalam cinema, earning the JFW Best Debutant Award for her role in the film Eko. The prestigious recognition marks a significant milestone not only in her personal journey but also for representation from the Garo community in Indian cinema.


Before stepping into films, Biana W Momin had a distinguished academic career. She served as a lecturer at Government College, Tura and later retired as the Principal of Tura Government College, where she was widely respected as an educator and administrator.

Her transition from academia to the silver screen has drawn admiration for her courage and inspiration, proving that professional reinvention is possible at any stage of life. The JFW Best Debutant Award acknowledges not just her acting talent but also her remarkable journey across two very different professions.

Kabak Yano from Arunachal Pradesh has successfully summited Mount Aconcagua, the highest mountain peak in South America on 1st February 2026, marking a significant milestone in her ambitious Seven Summits mountaineering expedition.

With this achievement, Yano continues her quest to conquer the highest peaks on each continent, drawing national attention to her endurance, discipline, and the growing presence of Indian mountaineers on the global stage.

Earlier, Yano created history by scaling Mount Everest on May 21, 2024, becoming the first woman from the Nyishi community and the fifth woman from Arunachal Pradesh to summit the world’s highest peak. 

As part of her Seven Summits campaign, she subsequently climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s tallest mountain, and Mount Elbrus, the highest peak in Europe, firmly establishing herself as one of the region’s leading mountaineers pursuing the prestigious global challenge.

Arunachal Pradesh Soldier Shri Kadaohum Bellai Awarded Sena Medal for Gallantry

 


Shri Kadaohum Bellai of 42 Rashtriya Rifles (Assam Regiment), Indian Army, has been awarded the prestigious Sena Medal (Gallantry) on the occasion of the 77th Republic Day 2026, in recognition of his exceptional courage and devotion to duty.

This year, a total of 44 Sena Medals (Gallantry) were conferred upon Armed Forces personnel across the country for acts of conspicuous bravery. Among them, Shri Bellai is the sole awardee from Arunachal Pradesh, marking a moment of immense pride for the state.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu congratulated Shri Kadaohum Bellai, lauding his bravery and dedication to the nation, and described the honour as a proud moment for Arunachal Pradesh and India.

The Sena Medal (Gallantry) is among India’s highest military decorations awarded for acts of exceptional courage in the face of the enemy.

Arunachal Vikas Parishad president Techi Gubin has been named for the Padma Shri award, India’s fourth-highest civilian honour, in recognition of his distinguished contribution to social service.


Gubin is among the 113 recipients announced for the Padma Shri this year. His work in social service and public welfare has earned wide appreciation across Arunachal Pradesh.


Aged 62, Gubin retired in 2024 as the Chief Architect of Arunachal Pradesh. He also served as the Director of Housing in the state government, where he contributed significantly to infrastructure planning and development.


His recognition is being seen as a proud moment for the state, highlighting years of dedicated service to society and public institutions.

Arunachal Pradesh has achieved a major national milestone by being ranked Best Performer by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Government of India, for its sustained efforts in building a robust, innovative, and inclusive startup ecosystem.

The recognition underscores the state’s commitment to encouraging entrepreneurship, fostering innovation, and creating an enabling environment for startups to grow and thrive. The Planning Department played a key role in driving policies and initiatives that strengthened the startup landscape across the state.


Notably, Arunachal Pradesh is among only three states, along with Gujarat and Goa to receive this prestigious national honour this year, reflecting its exceptional performance in promoting startups and enterprise development.


The achievement comes as a proud moment for the state on National Startup Day, reaffirming Arunachal Pradesh’s rising stature on India’s innovation and entrepreneurship map.

Guwahati: Chefs Taggu Tacho and Suresh Sabar from Arunachal Pradesh have brought pride to the state by winning a gold medal at India’s Largest Cake and Bake Show (2nd Edition), held recently in Guwahati, Assam, from January 9 to 11.

The prestigious national-level event witnessed participation from top bakers and pastry artists across the country. The three-day show featured live demonstrations by renowned artists, free mini hands-on workshops, dream shopping opportunities for baking professionals, and a grand display cake competition. Both chefs also impressed attendees by sharing their expertise in crafting delicate whipped cream flowers during live sessions.

Representing Arunachal Pradesh with distinction, Taggu Tacho and Suresh Sabar are co-owners of Bake and Bites Pasighat, a popular bakery based in Pasighat.
