Bomdila, April 13:
In a notable display of medical efficiency and teamwork, Bomdila Zonal General Hospital successfully carried out a life-saving emergency surgery on a critically ill patient suffering from acute intestinal obstruction accompanied by gastric perforation.
The patient, referred from the Community Health Centre in Dirang, arrived in a serious condition with intense abdominal pain, swelling, and respiratory distress. After prompt clinical assessment, doctors confirmed the need for immediate surgical intervention.
Despite operational challenges, including limited manpower and difficult weather conditions typical of the region, the surgical team acted swiftly. The operation was led by Dr. Ani Siram and Dr. Tomeru Rina, who performed a Graham’s patch repair procedure to address the perforation.
They were assisted by a dedicated OT team comprising nursing staff Pema Chuki, Rashmi, Kanchan, Unya, along with OT assistant Lobsang, whose coordinated efforts ensured the success of the procedure.
Hospital officials reported that the patient is now stable and responding well to post-operative care under close medical supervision.
The successful surgery highlights the growing capacity of Bomdila Zonal General Hospital to handle complex medical cases locally, reducing dependency on referrals outside the district and strengthening healthcare delivery in the region.
