G-RAM G Row in Arunachal Over Face Verification, Connectivity Issues

The implementation of the G-RAM G Act 2025 in Arunachal Pradesh has come under scrutiny, with concerns over the scheme’s reliance on Face RD (face-based biometric) verification for beneficiary registration. Ground reports suggest the requirement is becoming a barrier for many eligible individuals seeking welfare benefits.

The verification process under the scheme is being carried out using Face RD technology, which captures and matches facial features through a mobile-based system linked to the Unique Identification Authority of India. Introduced under the VB–G RAM G framework (formerly MGNREGA), the system aims to modernize attendance tracking and prevent fraud while enabling contactless authentication.

However, the rollout has faced challenges on the ground. Several videos circulating on social media show public frustration over difficulties in completing registration. Many report two key issues, failures in face-based verification and weak internet connectivity in remote villages. In one such video, people are seen gathering on a hilltop forested area to access network coverage, yet still facing authentication problems.

Critics warn that while the system aims to improve transparency, it may end up excluding genuine beneficiaries. The elderly, daily wage earners, and residents of remote areas are particularly affected, as failed verification or poor connectivity can lead to denial of benefits despite eligibility.

The issue has also taken on political significance, with questions being raised under the broader governance framework of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s “double-engine” model. Calls are growing for intervention to ensure that technology does not limit access to welfare.

The National Students’ Union of India Arunachal Pradesh unit has also raised concern, citing viral videos of villagers struggling with the verification process. The organisation termed it troubling that citizens, especially the elderly and labourers are being denied services due to technical failures and lack of proper facilitation.

NSUI Arunachal has demanded immediate fixing of technical issues, better on-ground assistance at centres, and a public assurance that no citizen will be denied benefits due to technological glitches. It also stressed that welfare schemes must serve people rather than create barriers.

Attention has turned to leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, and MP Tapir Gao, with expectations of corrective measures.

As the debate continues, the focus remains on ensuring inclusive welfare delivery while maintaining transparency in the system.

Subi Taba from Arunachal Pradesh has clinched the Best Debut Author title at the prestigious AutHer Awards 2026, presented by The Times of India in collaboration with JK Paper, marking a major milestone in her literary journey.

Her debut book, “Tales from the Dawn-Lit Mountains,” has garnered widespread appreciation for its evocative storytelling and nuanced portrayal of life, folklore, and identity from Northeast India. The book has resonated deeply with readers across the country, and its growing popularity has now been crowned with national recognition.

The AutHer Awards, a prominent platform dedicated to celebrating women authors in India, honours excellence across categories such as Debut, Fiction, Non-Fiction, and Children’s Literature. The awards aim to amplify female voices and encourage emerging writers, making Subi Taba’s win particularly significant.

In the Best Debut Author category, Subi Taba stood out among a competitive field of emerging writers. The longlist of nominees included:

This is not Subi Taba’s first major recognition. She previously won the Ramnath Goenka Sahithya Samman 2025 (Best Fiction) for the same book, further cementing its impact in contemporary Indian literature. Earlier, she was named among the 100 Inspiring Authors of India (2018) for her poetry collection “Dear Bohemian Man.” Her literary journey also includes winning the New Asian Writing Short Story Prize (2020) and being shortlisted for the Twist and Twain Short Story Prize (2021). She has additionally won Penguin Random House’s “The Perfect Pitch” (Season 1) and was a recipient of the South Asia Speaks Fellowship (2021).

Ojing Tasing Flags Off E-Rickshaws in Pasighat

Minister Ojing Tasing on Sunday flagged off a fleet of e-rickshaws under the Innovative & Economic Development / Income Enhancement Project (Gram Bandhu) of the Revamped Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan (RGSA) at Pasighat. The initiative was carried out in collaboration with Self-Help Groups (SHGs) from the concerned Gram Panchayats.

The programme witnessed the presence of Advisor HPD Ninong Ering, MLAs Er. Tapi Darang and Oken Tayeng, Director of Panchayati Raj Tajing Jonnom, Deputy Commissioner of East Siang Sonalika Jiwani, Superintendent of Police Pankaj Lamba, ZPC East Siang Ruth Tabing Boko, DPDO Pebika Lego, along with department officials, PRI representatives, and SHG members.

Addressing the gathering, Minister Tasing highlighted that the initiative reflects a practical and grassroots-focused approach to rural empowerment. He emphasized that the e-rickshaws are not merely a mode of transport but serve as a means of livelihood for SHGs and local entrepreneurs.

Namsai district in Arunachal Pradesh has achieved the top position in the “Financial Inclusion and Skill Development” category under the NITI Aayog’s Aspirational Districts Programme, earning an incentive of ₹3 crore. The announcement was made by Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein on Friday.

Sharing the update on social media, Mein highlighted that the recognition reflects the district’s focused and coordinated efforts aligned with national development priorities. He noted that the award is a testament to the progress made in strengthening financial access and enhancing skill-based initiatives at the grassroots level.

The Deputy Chief Minister credited the achievement to the collective contribution of district officials, departmental teams, frontline workers, and local residents. He emphasized that such recognition underscores the importance of collaborative governance and effective implementation of development schemes.

The scenic valley of Ziro turned into a vibrant hub of intellectual and creative exchange as the 6th edition of the Ziro Literary Festival (ZLF) commenced at St. Claret College on Friday.

The two-day festival is being organised by the Pinewood Organisation of Literature in collaboration with the District Administration of Lower Subansiri, under the theme “Celebrating Creativity for All.” The event brings together writers, poets, filmmakers, journalists, game developers, and creative professionals for dialogue, learning, and collaboration.

The festival was inaugurated by Arunachal Pradesh Education Minister PD Sona in the presence of local MLA Hage Appa, Deputy Commissioner Oli Perme, and Superintendent of Police Keni Bagra.
