Security Forces Foil Major Plot in Longding; NSCN-IM Cadre Arrested with Arms

 


Longding, February 19, 2026:

In a major counter-insurgency operation, a joint team of Assam Rifles, Special Task Force (STF), and Longding Police apprehended an active NSCN-IM cadre and recovered arms and ammunition during a raid near Longding town on Thursday.

Acting on specific inputs, the security forces launched an operation in the Tissing area of Zedua village on 19 February 2026. During the operation, SS Capt Ponglem Wangpan (35), son of late Ajong Wangpan and a resident of Longsom village in Longding district, Arunachal Pradesh, was arrested. Officials stated that the accused was leading a group of four members who had reportedly arrived in Longding with an undisclosed objective.

Security personnel seized one 5.56 mm INSAS rifle, one 9 mm pistol, one INSAS magazine, one pistol magazine, 18 rounds of 5.56 mm ammunition, and two rounds of 9 mm ammunition from his possession.

According to officials, the swift action of the joint security team helped thwart a potential terror incident and ensured the safety of the area. An FIR has been registered at Longding Police Station under Case No. 08/26, invoking Sections 25(1A)/27 read with Sections 10/13 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, and further investigation is underway.

Meanwhile, security forces have intensified combing and search operations at multiple locations in the district to track down other members of the group and prevent any further threats.

IMC Flags Off New Sanitation Vehicles to Boost Itanagar Cleanliness

 


Itanagar, February 19, 2026:

Marking another important milestone in strengthening urban sanitation, Minister for Urban Affairs, Land Management & Civil Aviation, Arunachal Pradesh, Shri Balo Raja, flagged off new IMC sanitation vehicles from the IMC office at Chimpu on Thursday to enhance the city’s cleanliness and waste management efforts.

The flag-off programme was held in the presence of Mayor Smti. Likha Nari Tadar, Deputy Mayor Shri Tok Tabin Camdir, corporators, the IMC Commissioner, and officials, reaffirming their commitment to improved sanitation and public health in the capital.

Speaking to the media, Deputy Mayor Tok Tabin Camdir stated that the vehicles flagged off today represent the first phase, as the IMC is expected to receive more sanitation trucks in the coming days. He informed that the vehicles launched in the first phase will be deployed in areas requiring urgent attention based on existing conditions, while additional vehicles arriving later will be allocated across wards to ensure easier accessibility and improved service delivery.

The initiative aims to boost the efficiency of waste collection, improve cleanliness across Itanagar, and ensure a healthier and more sustainable urban environment for citizens. Officials added that the addition of new sanitation trucks will further strengthen ongoing efforts to maintain better civic hygiene in the city.

Army Provides Computers, UPS and Interactive Panel to Dibang Valley Schools

Under OpSadbhavana, the Dao Division and Spear Head Division of Spear Corps strengthened educational infrastructure in Dibang Valley district by providing digital learning resources to local schools.

Officials informed that Anini Secondary School received computers along with Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems to improve classroom technology and ensure uninterrupted learning. Meanwhile, Government Residential School, Papikrung, was equipped with books and an interactive panel aimed at promoting modern teaching methods and enhancing student engagement.

Lower Siang Hosts ‘Run for Girl Child’ Mini Marathon Ahead of Statehood Day



Likabali, February 19, 2026:

On the eve of Arunachal Pradesh’s 40th Statehood Day, the District Administration of Lower Siang successfully organised the “Run for Girl Child – Mini Marathon” under the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao initiative at Likabali. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from residents across the district, reflecting strong community support for the cause.

Shri Gothombu Dajangju, SP Lower Siang, attended the programme as the Chief Guest. He was joined by Shri Tajum Ronya, AC Likabali; Dr. Senpe Taipodia, DANO; Shri Monya Dini, Nodal Officer, along with other officials and dignitaries.

The mini marathon featured multiple categories, including Boys, Girls, Men, and Women, and remained open to participants from various villages and institutions. The event aimed to promote awareness on the importance of protecting and empowering the girl child through education and equal opportunities.

Former Japanese Minister Dr. Kiyohiko Toyama Visits Apatani Valley with Mebo MLA Oken Tayeng

 


Ziro, February 18, 2026: 

MLA Oken Tayeng of the 39th Mebo Assembly Constituency accompanied a Japanese delegation to the scenic Apatani Valley, highlighting cultural ties and sustainable living practices. The visiting team included Dr. Kiyohiko Toyama, former Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan and former State Minister of Finance, Shri Bhattachan Sub Narsingh, CEO of Silverpeak Global, Nagasaki, and Shri Isaku Mori, Japan & Korea Manager at SPJ Japan.

During the visit, the delegation explored the Apatani Cultural Landscape, which is tentatively listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The valley drew appreciation for its unique balance of nature, traditional culture, and community-based sustainability, which the visitors noted shares similarities with Japanese cultural values.

59 ILP Violators Externed During Checking Drive by East Siang Police


Pasighat, February 18, 2026:

East Siang Police conducted an Inner Line Permit (ILP) checking operation in the district, during which 59 individuals were found violating ILP regulations. Following verification, all 59 violators were externed from the area as per established procedures.

According to officials, the drive was part of routine enforcement measures aimed at ensuring strict compliance with ILP norms and maintaining law and order. Police authorities reiterated the importance of carrying valid permits while entering or staying in ILP-restricted regions of Arunachal Pradesh.

Three Missing Boys from Nani Maria Children’s Home Found Safe in Roing



 Roing, February 18, 2026:

 Three minor boys who were earlier reported missing from Nani Maria Children’s Home in Roing have been successfully recovered, bringing relief to authorities and the local community. The recovery was confirmed following information shared by Roing Police, with LDV Police expressing gratitude to all stakeholders and members of the public for their cooperation during the search efforts.

Earlier, the disappearance of the boys had prompted police to launch an intensive search operation and appeal for public assistance. Identification details and contact numbers were circulated to help trace the children quickly.

Officials stated that coordinated efforts between law enforcement agencies and community members played a key role in ensuring the safe recovery of the minors. Further details regarding the circumstances of their disappearance and recovery have not been disclosed.

Ashok Doka Assumes Office as New ANSU President Amid Leadership Crisis

The All Nyishi Students’ Union (ANSU) has witnessed significant developments over the past few days as multiple District Students’ Unions (DSUs), Branch Students’ Unions (BSUs), and several college student bodies declared Ashok Doka as the newly recognised President, citing an ongoing leadership crisis within the organisation.

On Wednesday, Ashok Doka officially assumed charge of the ANSU President’s office. His appointment has reportedly been accepted by General Secretary Mai Aram along with 17 elected executive members, marking a major shift in the union’s leadership structure.

Soon after taking office, Doka shared a message on social media expressing gratitude for the support extended to him. He stated that he would serve with “dedication, integrity, and transparency,” while upholding the legacy and vision of ANSU. Emphasising unity and collective responsibility, he pledged to work for the welfare of the student community and the overall development of the Nyishi society.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu met and congratulated Ms Akbari Khatoon from Tawang district for winning the National Gold Medal in the 56 kg category at the WPC National Powerlifting Championship 2026 held in Noida. Born and brought up in Tawang and fluent in Monpa, Khatoon secured the top podium finish with impressive lifts, 110 kg in squat, 42.5 kg in bench press, and 117.5 kg in deadlift.

The Chief Minister praised her dedication and perseverance, noting her journey from District Champion to State Strong Woman and now National Champion as an inspiration for aspiring athletes across Arunachal Pradesh. Homestay Convention 2026 Concludes at Mechukha

The Homestay Convention 2026 concluded at Mechukha Valley in Arunachal Pradesh, with the valedictory programme attended by Tourism Minister Pasang Dorjee Sona along with Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, dignitaries, homestay owners, and tourism stakeholders from across the state.

Organised by the Department of Tourism, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, the three-day convention brought together homestay entrepreneurs, tour operators, government officials, and domain experts to discuss the future of sustainable community-based tourism. The event celebrated Arunachal Pradesh’s rich cultural heritage and the growing role of homestays in promoting responsible travel while strengthening local livelihoods.

Arunachal Taekwondo Athletes Win Bronze at Mt. Everest CGI Event

Three taekwondo athletes from Arunachal Pradesh, competing in the senior poomsae division, secured bronze medals at the 2nd Mt. Everest CGI International Taekwondo Event held on February 16, 2026, in Kathmandu, Nepal.

Khinsan Wangsu, Achum Sangha, and Radha Bangsia achieved the podium finish while representing India against strong international competition, with participants from nearly 20 countries taking part in the prestigious event.
