Pasighat Drug Bust: Peddler Held with Heroin, Ganja

 


Pasighat, May 5:

In a continued crackdown on narcotics under Operation Dawn 2.0, the East Siang District Police apprehended an alleged drug peddler during a targeted operation carried out by the Anti-Drug Squad (ADS) under Pasighat Police Station on Tuesday morning.

Acting on credible intelligence received at approximately 9:05 AM regarding the movement of illegal narcotic substances, a police team swiftly launched an operation and set up a naka (checkpoint) based on the inputs. The operation was led by ADS In-Charge DySP Ayub Boko, along with L/Inspector Amum Panyang, SI K. Tangha, SI Kodak Dagium, and supporting personnel including L/Ct K. Atraham, Ct S. Modi, Ct N. Tayeng, Ct Thomas Panyang, and Ct C. Ejing.

During the operation, the team intercepted an individual identified as Maklung Tayeng, son of Bising Tayeng, a resident of Mebo in East Siang district. He was travelling in a night super bus bound for Pasighat. The interception and subsequent search were conducted in the presence of Executive Magistrate Sanjay Taram (SDO), ensuring adherence to legal procedures.

Upon conducting a body search, the police recovered suspected heroin weighing 1.49 grams (including packaging) and suspected ganja weighing 3.12 grams (including packaging) from the possession of the accused.

Officials confirmed that the seized contraband was carefully weighed, properly packed, sealed, and documented in compliance with legal protocols. The entire operation was video-recorded to maintain transparency and accountability.

Following the seizure, a case has been registered at Pasighat Police Station under Case No. 45/26, invoking Sections 21(a) and 20(b)(ii)(A) of the NDPS Act. The accused has been taken into custody, and further investigation is currently underway.

Superintendent of Police, East Siang, Pankaj Lamba, commended the ADS team for their prompt and effective action. He reiterated the district police’s firm commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against drug-related offences. He also appealed to the public to remain vigilant and actively report any suspicious or illegal activities, stressing that community cooperation is crucial in the fight to make East Siang a drug-free district.
