Hawai Hostel Site ILP Check: 3 Labourers Detained

Hawai, May 4:

A verification drive conducted by Hawai Police at the under-construction Girls’ Hostel site has led to the detention of three labourers found without valid Inner Line Permits (ILPs), officials confirmed on Monday.

The operation was carried out on May 3 following specific information received from Shri Chogin Tayang, who reported that some workers at the site might not possess valid ILPs. Acting promptly, a team from Police Station Hawai visited the construction site and brought all 25 labourers present to the police station for document verification.

During scrutiny, 22 labourers were found to be in possession of valid temporary ILPs issued from Dirak Gate in Namsai district.

They were subsequently released after completion of due verification procedures.

However, three labourers were unable to produce valid ILPs. They have been detained and are set to be produced before the Executive Magistrate, Hawai, for prosecution under Section 3 of the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation (BEFR) Act, 1873.

The district police reiterated that enforcement of ILP regulations remains a priority. Alongside routine checks at designated entry gates, surprise verification drives at worksites are being conducted to ensure compliance.

Authorities have urged citizens to report any suspected ILP violations to the nearest police station and to refrain from taking the law into their own hands.
