Papum Pare Reviews Monsoon Preparedness, Releases Disaster Plan

 


Itanagar, April 24:

A district-level review meeting on monsoon preparedness was held at the DC Conference Hall under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner-cum-Chairman, DDMA, Shri Lobsang Tsering. The meeting assessed readiness measures ahead of the upcoming monsoon season.

During the programme, the District Disaster Management Plan was officially released in the presence of ZPC Smt. Bamang Yayu, ADC Balijan Shri Takar Rava, ADC (Hq) Smt. Tame Yajum, and other officials.

Addressing the gathering, DC Shri Lobsang Tsering stated that while adequate manpower and equipment are available, effective coordination among all stakeholders remains crucial during disaster situations. He also highlighted that several disasters in the Itanagar region are human-induced and called for greater public responsibility.

ZPC Smt. Bamang Yayu raised key concerns, including the need to include the Head of Project of Panyor Lower Hydro Power Station (PLHPS) in disaster management meetings, citing that most downstream areas fall under Papum Pare district. She also flagged recurring power disruptions in Kimin during monsoon and delays in road clearance following landslides.

Representatives from NDRF, the medical department, NEEPCO Limited, and Highway/PWD divisions presented their preparedness plans and outlined response strategies.

District Disaster Management Officer Shri Nima Tashi informed that a control room has been set up at the headquarters and urged all administrative officers to ensure preparedness at subdivision and circle levels.

All departments have been directed to maintain buffer stock of essential commodities and remain fully prepared to respond to any emergencies during the monsoon season.

Governor Praises Itanagar Cleanliness Drive, Shares Sikkim Model

 

The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Lt Gen K T Parnaik (Retd), has commended the Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) for its notable efforts in improving cleanliness and environmental standards in the state capital.

In an official letter addressed to Itanagar Mayor Smt Likha Nari Tadar, the Governor expressed appreciation for the visible transformation achieved under her leadership. He highlighted that the initiatives undertaken by the IMC have significantly enhanced hygiene, strengthened the city’s green identity, and contributed to making Itanagar a healthier and more livable urban center.

The Governor noted that such improvements reflect not only effective governance but also a strong commitment to sustainable development and public well-being. He acknowledged the collective efforts of the municipal team in maintaining environmental standards and fostering civic pride.

As part of continued efforts to promote clean and green initiatives across the state, the Governor also shared a document on “Green Initiatives” implemented by the Black Cat Division in Sikkim. He expressed confidence that the reference material would serve as a valuable guide and inspire further progress in Itanagar’s journey toward sustainability.

The communication concluded with appreciation for the dedication and continued commitment of the IMC leadership in advancing environmental goals in the capital city.

Ziro Marks 1st Martyrdom Anniversary of Corporal Tage Hailyang

The first martyrdom anniversary of Late Corporal Tage Hailyang was solemnly observed at Dilang, Rake Lembo in Ziro, drawing a large gathering of family members, community leaders, well-wishers, and admirers who came together to pay tribute to the fallen hero.

The ceremony was marked by a deeply emotional yet dignified atmosphere, reflecting both the grief of loss and the pride in Corporal Hailyang’s supreme sacrifice in service of the nation. Attendees offered prayers, shared memories, and honoured his legacy through collective remembrance.

Hapoli constituency MLA Hage Appa, who attended the programme, described the occasion as more than a remembrance. He emphasized that such moments serve as a reminder of the sacrifices made by the nation’s bravehearts and the responsibility of citizens to uphold their legacy through service and unity. He also extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, stating that Corporal Hailyang’s sacrifice would forever be remembered with pride and gratitude.

He reaffirmed that the country remains indebted to its fallen heroes and must continue to honour their legacy.

Leparada Holds First Coordination Meet with ZPMs, Departments

 


Leparada, April 22:

In a significant move to strengthen grassroots governance and inter-departmental coordination, Leparada district conducted its first-ever coordination-cum-interaction meeting with newly elected Zilla Parishad Members (ZPMs) and Heads of Departments at the DC’s Conference Hall in Basar on Wednesday.

The meeting was chaired by ADC-cum-DPDO Ejum Angu along with ZPC Leparada Nyamar Riba. It saw active participation from all newly elected ZPMs and representatives from key departments including Health, Agriculture, Horticulture, ArSRLM, Veterinary, Rural Development, ICDS, Education, Fisheries, PWD, RWD, PHED, and Electrical.

Departments presented detailed overviews of Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS), flagship programmes, and ongoing developmental works across the district. Panchayati Raj initiatives and success stories under SOR grants were also highlighted.

During the interactive session, ZPMs appreciated the initiative and stressed the importance of regular coordination, timely information sharing, and greater involvement of PRI members in planning and implementation.

ZPC Nyamar Riba emphasized transparency, teamwork, and stronger coordination between PRIs and departments. He also called for regular meetings to ensure effective governance and improved service delivery at the grassroots level.

Arunachal Wushu Athletes Win Five Silvers in Moscow; Qualify for Asian Games Trials

Arunachal Pradesh’s wushu athletes delivered a commendable performance at the International Wushu Championship held in Moscow, securing a total of five silver medals and earning praise from leaders across the state.

Nyeman Wangsu clinched three silver medals in the Changquan, Daoshu, and Gunshu events, while Mercy Ngaimong secured two silver medals in Jianshu and Qiangshu, reflecting their consistency and high level of skill on the international stage.

State Home Minister Mama Natung congratulated both athletes for their outstanding achievements, stating that their discipline, dedication, and commitment to excellence have brought immense pride to Arunachal Pradesh.

He further expressed satisfaction that both athletes have successfully cleared the preliminary trials for the upcoming Asian Games in Japan. 

Extending his best wishes, he hoped for their final selection in June and encouraged them to continue bringing laurels to the state and the nation at the international level.

Escaped Murder Accused Birju Bhumij Recaptured in Kurung Kumey

 

Koloriang, April 22:

In a major development, escaped murder accused Birju Bhumij has been successfully recaptured by Kurung Kumey District Police following a swift and strategically executed operation, days after he fled from the Sub-Jail in Koloriang.

Earlier, Kra-Daadi Police had issued an urgent district-wide alert after Bhumij escaped from custody on Tuesday under circumstances that remain under investigation. The accused, identified as a dangerous offender and a one-eyed man, had triggered heightened security measures and an intensive search operation across the region.

Acting on credible inputs and maintaining continuous surveillance, Kurung Kumey Police managed to trace and apprehend the accused. Officials confirmed that timely information provided by residents of Nikja village played a crucial role in locating Bhumij, enabling police teams to carry out the arrest efficiently.

Authorities reiterated that the successful operation highlights the preparedness and professionalism of the police force, as well as the importance of public cooperation in maintaining law and order.

During the search phase, Kra-Daadi Police had urged citizens to remain vigilant and avoid approaching the accused directly, advising them instead to report any information immediately to authorities.

The district administration has expressed sincere appreciation to the residents of Nikja village for their vigilance, courage, and proactive support, which significantly contributed to the swift re-arrest of the accused.

Arunachal Class X Results: Pass Rate Hits 61.48%

 


Itanagar, April 21:

The Government of Arunachal Pradesh has officially released the district-wise results for the Class X AISSE 2025–26 examinations, showing a continued improvement in overall performance across the state. The overall pass percentage stands at 61.48%, marking a steady rise compared to previous years.

According to the official data, 12,204 students registered for the examination, out of which 11,962 appeared. A total of 7,141 students successfully passed, while 564 students failed and 242 were absent.

District-wise Performance Highlights

Top Performing Districts (by pass percentage):

Tawang – 89.97%

Kamle – 82.13%

Upper Subansiri – 73.88%

Tawang emerged as the best-performing district with an exceptional pass rate nearing 90%, reflecting strong academic outcomes and effective educational support systems.

Other High Performers:

East Siang – 72.77%

Shi Yomi – 72.15%

Siang – 71.64%

Lowest Performing Districts

Namsai – 37.32%

Anjaw – 42.50%

Pakke Kessang – 42.96%

These districts recorded comparatively lower pass percentages, indicating areas where targeted academic interventions may be required.

The Class X AISSE 2025–26 results demonstrate encouraging progress in Arunachal Pradesh’s education sector, with notable improvements in overall pass percentage and several districts achieving strong performances. However, disparities among districts highlight the need for focused support in underperforming regions to ensure balanced educational development across the state.

Biri Takar Wins Double Gold at Czech Para Badminton International 2026

Arunachal Pradesh’s para badminton player Biri Takar delivered an outstanding performance at the Czech Para Badminton International 2026, securing two gold medals and one bronze.

Takar won gold in the Men’s Singles SL4 category and gold in the Men’s Doubles SL3–SU5 category, along with a bronze medal in the Mixed Doubles SL3–SU5 category, marking a significant achievement on the international stage.

Following his victory, Takar expressed gratitude to his coaches, doubles partners Joao and Sofia, and multiple supporting institutions, including the Department of Sports Arunachal Pradesh, GoSports Foundation, MyGov Arunachal Pradesh, and CBM India.

He also acknowledged the guidance of national head coach Gaurav Khanna and support from organizations such as the Paralympic Association of Arunachal, Arunachal State Para Badminton Association, Sports Authority of Arunachal, and the Badminton Association of India.

Takar dedicated his success to his family in Arunachal Pradesh, highlighting their continued support and motivation, especially during his extended period away from home for training and competition.


AAPSU Warns Against Illegal Collections in Its Name

 

Itanagar, April 20:

The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union has issued a public advisory cautioning people against unauthorized and illegal collection of money or materials in its name. The advisory, dated April 20, 2026, follows a resolution taken during the 1st Central Executive Council Meeting of the union for the 2026–2029 session.

In the notice, AAPSU informed the general public of Arunachal Pradesh, particularly market associations, bazaar committees, and members of the business community, that any form of collection carried out by anti-social elements in the name of the union or its office bearers is strictly prohibited. The union clarified that such activities include solicitation of donations, sale of union calendars, lottery or housie tickets, distribution of gift coupons, and forced collection of items such as watches, mobile phones, laptops, electronic goods, or any other materials.

AAPSU further stated that any legitimate appeal for voluntary contributions would be undertaken only through the joint recommendation of its authorized signatories, namely the President, General Secretary, and Finance Secretary. It emphasized that strict action will be initiated against any individual or group found engaging in illegal collection drives or misusing the name of the union. The advisory also warned that anyone tarnishing the image of the organization would not be spared.

The union urged the public to report any such illegal activities directly to its authorized office bearers without delay. The advisory has been circulated to Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police across all districts, along with market associations, bazaar committees, and media organizations for wider awareness and compliance.

The notice has been jointly signed by AAPSU President Meje Taku, Finance Secretary Zente Mosu, and General Secretary Mato Bui.

Arunachal Trio Selected for ISRO YUVIKA

 


Itanagar, April 21:

Three students from Arunachal Pradesh have been selected for the prestigious YUVIKA 2026 (Young Scientist Programme) conducted by the ISRO, marking a significant academic achievement for the state.

The selected students are Miss Geyon Talom from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), Geku in Upper Siang district, Miss Lukshmi Sikom from Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya (VKV), Kuporijo in Upper Subansiri, and Miss Jennifer Neri from JNV Seppa in East Kameng district.

State Minister Dasanglu Pul, while sharing the news, stated that the achievement reflects the students’ hard work, dedication, and strong interest in science. She noted that their success brings pride to their institutions, families, and the entire state.

The YUVIKA (Yuva Vigyani Karyakram) is a flagship initiative of ISRO aimed at encouraging school students, particularly those in Class 9, to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The 2026 programme is scheduled to be held from May 11 to May 22 and will provide selected students with hands-on exposure to space science, satellite technology, and rocketry.

Participants will attend a two-week residential programme at various ISRO centres across India, where they will interact directly with scientists and experts. The programme is fully funded by ISRO, covering travel, accommodation, and study materials.

Selection for YUVIKA is highly competitive and is based on academic performance, online quiz results, and participation in extracurricular activities such as science fairs and NCC.

The selection of these three students highlights the growing academic potential of Arunachal Pradesh in the field of science and space research.
