Seppa, Jan 14:

The East Kameng district administration on Wednesday commenced the physical re-verification of land parcels and standing assets along the Lada–Sarli stretch of the Arunachal Frontier Highway, marking a crucial step in addressing alleged irregularities in land acquisition and compensation linked to the strategic road project.

As per official sources, the exercise is being carried out by three designated committees across Packages I to V, covering the project corridor from Km 14.60 to Km 123.50, with reference to approved strip plans and previously issued compensation awards. The re-verification is being conducted simultaneously across all packages under the supervision of the Deputy Commissioner, East Kameng.

Teams were seen conducting field inspections from early morning, verifying land boundaries, structures, plantations and other standing assets, while cross-checking claims with existing records. Landowners, beneficiaries and asset holders were present at multiple locations to assist the verification teams and produce supporting documents.

Officials reiterated that any construction, plantation or asset creation undertaken after the issuance of the re-verification order will not be considered for compensation and may be excluded under applicable provisions of law.

The re-verification process follows widespread allegations of inflated valuations, compensation for non-existent assets and the exclusion of genuine landowners in the Lada–Sarli Frontier Highway project, which has remained under intense public scrutiny.

The matter is under investigation by the State Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB). In mid-December 2025, the ACB arrested East Kameng DLRSO Takam Kechak in connection with the alleged misappropriation of compensation funds related to the project. A local broker has also been arrested in the case.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu has reiterated that the government will maintain zero tolerance towards corruption and assured that strict action will be taken against anyone found guilty. He has also stated that the re-verification exercise is aimed at ensuring transparency, protecting genuine landowners and restoring public trust in the compensation process.
