The All Nyishi Students’ Union (ANSU) has submitted a formal representation to the Commissioner (Education), Government of Arunachal Pradesh, urging the immediate operationalisation of Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) courses in three government colleges of the state.
In its representation dated January 13, 2026, ANSU referred to Government Notification No. ED/HE/PLG-739/2018 dated June 28, 2018, which had approved the introduction of B.Ed programmes at Dera Natung Government College, Itanagar; Jawaharlal Nehru College, Pasighat; and Indira Gandhi Government College, Tezu.
The student body expressed concern that despite the issuance of the notification nearly eight years ago, the B.Ed courses have not been made operational, rendering the decision ineffective and defeating its intended objective.
ANSU highlighted that Arunachal Pradesh currently has no state government-run institution offering B.Ed programmes, forcing aspiring students to seek admission in private colleges outside the state at exorbitant costs. This, the union stated, has deprived many students of access to affordable professional teacher education.
Terming the continued non-implementation of the notification as arbitrary and unreasonable, ANSU said it goes against the state’s obligation to ensure equitable access to higher education. The union has appealed to the Education Department to intervene at the earliest and take concrete steps to implement the notified B.Ed courses in the identified government colleges.
