The Arunachal ST Bachao Andolan (Lower Subansiri District Unit), in coordination with the United Joint Youth Steering Committee, Bamin Michi Youth Association, Siiro Youth Association, and the Arunachal Pradesh Indigenous Youth Organisation, has announced a 24-hour bandh across the entire Lower Subansiri district on January 21, 2026.
According to the organisers, the bandh is being called to press their long-standing demand for the demolition of two allegedly illegal masjids, one located at Pare Ami, Hapoli, and the other at Sullya, Old Ziro.
The organisations stated that a meeting was convened by the district administration to discuss the issue. However, ST Bachao Andolan chairman Millo Ambo alleged that the meeting failed to reach any meaningful conclusion as the Deputy Commissioner, Oli Perme, was absent. Following this, the organisations decided to proceed with the bandh, which they said had already been announced last week.
It may be recalled that in December 2025, the Lower Subansiri district administration had constituted a committee to verify the legal status of the two religious structures. After verification, the authorities sealed both masjids on December 29, 2025, citing the absence of valid legal documents and permits.
Since then, the Arunachal ST Bachao Andolan (Lower Subansiri District Unit) has been consistently demanding the demolition of the sealed structures, maintaining that they continue to remain illegal.
The organisations have appealed to the public from all communities and walks of life to extend support to the bandh call and cooperate in making it successful.
