One alleged cadre of the NSCN-KYA surrendered before security forces following a joint operation in Longding district of Arunachal Pradesh on Sunday, officials said.
According to official sources, acting on specific intelligence inputs regarding the presence of an active insurgent in and around Longding Bazaar, a joint operation was launched on January 19 by the Khonsa and Longding battalions of the Assam Rifles in coordination with the Arunachal Pradesh Police.
Security personnel reportedly established contact with the suspect through ground sources and engaged in sustained counselling and negotiations. After several hours of dialogue, the individual agreed to surrender voluntarily.
The surrendered cadre has been identified as Akha alias Khawang Wangsu (38), a resident of Longphong village under Pangchau Circle in Longding district. He was reportedly associated with the NSCN-KYA and had joined the outfit in September 2025.
Following the surrender, the individual was taken into custody by the joint security team and later handed over to Longding Police Station at around 4 pm for further legal proceedings.
Officials stated that the operation was carried out based on credible intelligence inputs and close coordination with local police as part of ongoing efforts to curb insurgency-related activities in the district.
