Anini, April 28:
The Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW), in collaboration with the Dibang Valley Women’s Welfare Society (DVWWS), organised an awareness programme on key social issues affecting women and youth at Anini.
Addressing the gathering, APSCW Chairperson Smti. Yalem Taga Burang highlighted the growing concern of drug abuse, emphasising its adverse impact on society and the legal consequences associated with it. She called for collective efforts to curb the menace and safeguard the future of the younger generation. She also expressed concern over the increasing number of liquor outlets compared to essential establishments such as pharmacies, bookstores, and ration shops, stressing the need for a more balanced approach to community development.
APSCW Vice Chairperson Smti. Tsering Dolma elaborated on various women empowerment initiatives and government schemes, with particular focus on strengthening Self-Help Groups (SHGs) as effective tools for socio-economic development. APSCW Member Smti. Kipa Kaya Rughu spoke on domestic violence, informing participants about available legal remedies and support systems for victims.
Shri Dopi Tacho, District Coordinator-cum-Gender Specialist, delivered a detailed session on workplace sexual harassment, outlining existing legal safeguards and institutional mechanisms. Shri C.L. Sahani conducted an informative session on cyber safety, highlighting the importance of responsible digital behaviour, while Miss Aneri Mena emphasised the importance of mental health awareness, particularly among youth.
The programme began with a welcome address by Miss Akunge Miuli, Organising Chairman of DVWWS, followed by the felicitation of dignitaries. It concluded with an interactive session that encouraged active participation and dialogue, and a vote of thanks proposed by Hachiya Meto, CDPO.
The event witnessed active participation from officers, officials, students, and members of the public, fostering informed discussions and enhancing awareness on critical social issues.
Among others present were APSCW Member Secretary Smti. Yakar Dawe, Member Smti. Kotu Bui, SDO Shri Lijum Ete, along with Heads of Departments and other officials. (DIPRO)
