Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Monday stated that the Arunachal Pradesh government is moving towards the implementation of a robust, IT-enabled Inner Line Permit (ILP) system aimed at strengthening monitoring and enforcement mechanisms across the state.
The upgraded system will allow authorities to efficiently track overstaying visitors, expired permits, unusual travel patterns, and real-time entry and exit data. The Chief Minister emphasized that the initiative is intended to prevent unlawful stay and misuse of permits, while simultaneously enhancing security, ensuring strict adherence to the rule of law, and safeguarding the rights and interests of the state’s indigenous communities.
Notably, around a month ago, CM Khandu had informed that, based on government data, nearly 5,000 illegal immigrants or unauthorized visitors were detected and deported through ILP checks between January and mid-November 2025. He clarified that all such actions were undertaken strictly in accordance with due legal procedures.
It is also pertinent to mention that several organisations, including ST Bachao Andolan, APIYO, IYFA, ANYO, among others, have consistently voiced concerns over the protection of Arunachal Pradesh’s tribal identity. These groups have been demanding stricter enforcement of the ILP system and more effective checks against illegal immigration, particularly in the state capital region and across Arunachal Pradesh as a whole.
