Drug Bust in Banderdewa: Two Arrested

 


Banderdewa, June 20:

In a major anti-drug operation, Banderdewa Police arrested two individuals and seized suspected heroin during a naka checking drive conducted near Hanuman Mandir in Banderdewa. The operation was launched based on specific intelligence inputs regarding the transportation of narcotic substances from Assam into Arunachal Pradesh. 

Acting on the information, police personnel intercepted a Ray Z scooter and apprehended Nabam Subash alias Lulu, a resident of Ganga Market in Itanagar, and Raj Pordung of Khenewa in Seppa, East Kameng district.

During a physical search of the accused, police recovered 18 vials containing suspected heroin weighing 23.45 grams. A sum of Rs 610 in cash was also seized from their possession. Officials stated that the contraband was discovered during the checking operation and was subsequently seized in accordance with legal procedures under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

The operation was carried out by a police team led by Inspector Kipa Hamak under the supervision of Rishi Longdo. Police said the search and seizure were conducted in the presence of independent witnesses and in strict compliance with the provisions of the NDPS Act. The recovered contraband was duly sealed, documented, and taken into custody following all prescribed legal formalities.

Following the seizure, a case was registered at Banderdewa Police Station vide Case No. 35/2026 under Sections 21(b), 27, and 29 of the NDPS Act, and further investigation has been initiated. 

Commenting on the development, Superintendent of Police Dr. Nyelam Nega reaffirmed the commitment of Arunachal Pradesh Police to combating drug trafficking and protecting society from the menace of narcotics, stating that stringent action would continue against those involved in the illegal drug trade.
