Auto Driver Arrested for Machete Attack in Itanagar

 


Itanagar, June 7:

Capital Police have arrested a 28-year-old man in connection with an alleged attempt to murder case following a violent assault near Clock Tower, Itanagar.

According to police, a written complaint was received at Itanagar Police Station on June 6, 2026, reporting that an auto-rickshaw driver had been brutally attacked by another auto driver in the Clock Tower area. Acting on the complaint, police registered Itanagar P.S. Case No. 152/2026 under Sections 109(II) and 118(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), pertaining to attempt to murder and voluntarily causing grievous hurt using a dangerous weapon.

Following the registration of the case, a police team launched a late-night operation to trace the accused. The operation culminated in the arrest of Tai Saimon (28), son of late Tai Tachey, who is presently residing near the Legislative Assembly in Itanagar.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a physical altercation had reportedly broken out between the accused and the victim. During the confrontation, the accused allegedly attacked the victim with a machete, inflicting serious injuries that endangered the victim's life.

The injured victim is currently undergoing medical treatment. Police said the investigation remains underway, with efforts focused on obtaining medical opinions, examining witnesses, reviewing CCTV footage from the area, and recovering additional evidence connected to the incident.

Capital Police stated that they acted swiftly to apprehend the accused and reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order. Authorities emphasized that incidents involving violent assaults will be dealt with firmly and strictly in accordance with the law.
