Basar, April 15:
In a spirited display of support, a bike and scooty rally was organised in Basar on Tuesday in favour of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, drawing enthusiastic participation from women across Leparada district.
The rally was attended by Basar MLA Nyabi Jini Dirchi, ZPM Smti Karnya Bam Chiram, and Miss Eter Baam, along with several local women who turned up in large numbers. Riders carrying placards and raising slogans moved through key areas of Basar, creating a lively and engaging atmosphere.
Participants said the rally was not just a show of support but also an effort to raise awareness about women’s rights and representation. Many described it as a moment of pride, with women from different backgrounds coming together with a shared purpose.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Dirchi said it was truly encouraging to witness such strong grassroots participation. She noted that the response reflects growing awareness among women and their willingness to take part in shaping governance. She added that such initiatives help build confidence and leadership among women at the local level.
The MLA also acknowledged the role of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP-led government in introducing the legislation. She credited the continued efforts of Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, and BJP Arunachal Pradesh President Kaling Moyong for promoting inclusive governance and encouraging women to take on leadership roles.

Locals who witnessed the rally described it as a positive and motivating initiative. They said such events help bring important national issues closer to the people and encourage wider participation, especially among young women.
The rally concluded peacefully, with participants expressing hope that more such awareness programmes would be held in the future to further strengthen women’s role in society.
The Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, also known as the Women’s Reservation Act, seeks to reserve 33 percent of seats in the Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies for women. The law is aimed at increasing women’s representation in politics and decision-making, and is expected to come into effect after the next census and delimitation process. It is widely seen as a significant step toward achieving greater gender equality in governance.
