Nirjuli, April 2:
In a sustained crackdown on drug trafficking, the ICR Naharlagun Police apprehended two suspected drug peddlers and seized 31 vials of heroin during a targeted operation in Nirjuli on Wednesday.
According to an official press release from the Office of the Superintendent of Police, Naharlagun, the operation was conducted on April 2 at around 2:30 PM following credible intelligence inputs regarding the transportation of heroin from Banderdewa for distribution across the Itanagar Capital Region.
Acting on the input, a police team led by Inspector Tadu Hassang, Officer-in-Charge of Nirjuli Police Station, carried out the operation under the supervision of Superintendent of Police Dr. Nyelam Nega. The team intercepted a TVS NTORQ scooter without a registration number at the Viaduct Bridge in Dikrong, Nirjuli.
Two individuals were apprehended at the scene and identified as Khyoda Tama (24), a resident of Jollang near Central Jail, Itanagar, and Bamang Raju (29), a resident of Dokum Colony, Itanagar.

During the search, police recovered 31 vials of heroin weighing 39.96 grams (including the weight of the vials) from their possession. The contraband, along with the scooter, was seized in the presence of independent witnesses, adhering to all legal procedures.
A case has been registered at Nirjuli Police Station (Case No. 18/26) under Sections 21(b)/27 of the NDPS Act. Further investigation is currently underway.
Police officials reiterated their commitment to intensifying action against drug trafficking and ensuring a drug-free environment in the region.
