Itanagar, April 26:
Capital Police has registered a fresh case at the Women Police Station in Itanagar following serious allegations of sexual assault involving minor girls.
The matter first came to light at the Naharlagun Police Station. Considering the nature of the allegations, pertaining to crimes against women and children, the complainant was directed to approach the Women Police Station, Itanagar, where a formal FIR was subsequently registered.
According to police sources, the case originated from a written complaint filed by the father of one of the victims. He reported that his minor daughter and her friends had gone missing from their rented accommodation in D-Sector, Naharlagun, during the early hours. Preliminary enquiry revealed that the girls were allegedly taken to a hotel in Naharlagun by three male individuals, where the incident is reported to have occurred.
Based on the complaint, Ita WPS Case No. 35/2026 has been registered under Section 96 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), read with Sections 6(1), 17, and 21(1) of the POCSO Act. The investigation has been entrusted to Sub-Inspector Bamang Yakum.
Acting swiftly, police identified and arrested three accused persons:
Mofidul Islam (21), son of Abu Hanifa, originally from 2 No. Amutpur, Bihpuria, Lakhimpur district, Assam, currently residing in Lekhi Village.
Inzamamul Haque (21), son of Muktar Hussain, from 3 No. Islampur Block, Laluk, Lakhimpur district, Assam, currently residing in Kankarnallah, Naharlagun.
Md. Azaharul Islam (21), son of Ajijur Rahman, also from 3 No. Islampur Block, Laluk, Lakhimpur district, Assam, currently residing in Dokum Colony, Naharlagun.
Police confirmed that statements of the victims have been recorded under relevant legal provisions. Medical examinations are currently being conducted at TRIHMS, Naharlagun.
Authorities stated that the investigation is being carried out strictly in accordance with the law, ensuring sensitivity, confidentiality, and protection of the dignity and identity of the victims.
Further investigation into the case is ongoing.
Capital Police has also urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant about the online activities and social media interactions of children, emphasizing that the safety and protection of minors remain a top priority.
