Four Arrested in IG Park Assault and Attempted Abduction Case in Itanagar
Itanagar, April 27, 2026: Four persons have been arrested in connection with an alleged assault and attempted abduction incident reported near IG Park, Itanagar.
According to police, a written complaint was received at Itanagar Police Station at approximately 12:15 AM on April 27, 2026, regarding an incident that occurred on the evening of April 26 near IG Park.
The complainant, an advocate by profession, stated that he had gone to the park for his routine evening run. After completing his run, he was approached by a group of individuals who allegedly mistook him for someone they were searching for. The group reportedly restrained him, physically assaulted him, and attempted to forcibly take him away by holding his hands, legs, and neck.
The complainant managed to resist, free himself, and run back towards safety inside the park. He subsequently approached the police station and lodged a formal complaint.
During the course of investigation, it emerged that the accused persons had gone to IG Park while searching for a suspected drug supplier, based on information gathered through their own private inquiry. Police stated that the complainant was allegedly mistaken for the individual they were seeking.
Further investigation revealed that prior to the IG Park incident, the accused had allegedly picked up suspected drug users from different locations, assaulted and interrogated them, recorded videos, and forced them to disclose names of alleged suppliers. Acting on such disclosures, the group proceeded to IG Park, where they targeted the complainant.
Police clarified that the actions of the accused were not part of any authorized law enforcement operation. Authorities emphasized that no private individual or group has the legal authority to detain, assault, interrogate, threaten, film, or forcibly take any person on suspicion of involvement in illegal activities.
The group was reportedly led by Shri Hibu Rika, General Secretary of an anti-drug squad, along with his associates.
Based on the complaint, a case has been registered at Itanagar Police Station under Case No. 112/2026, invoking relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). All four accused persons have been arrested, and further investigation is ongoing.
