In a landmark boost to winter sports and tourism, Arunachal Pradesh is set to host the 1st Open National Ski Mountaineering Championship at PT Tso in Tawang, marking the Northeast’s first-ever organized snow sports event.
The initiative includes an inaugural Ski and Snowboarding Training Program scheduled from April 5 to 14, followed by the national championship on April 15. The event is expected to draw athletes and enthusiasts from across the country, introducing a new competitive platform in the region.
Set against the pristine, snow-covered landscape of PT Tso, the event aims to unlock Arunachal Pradesh’s vast potential for winter sports. Officials emphasize that beyond athlete development, the championship is a strategic move to position Tawang as a premier winter tourism destination.
This historic event signals the beginning of a new chapter for Indian winter sports, with Arunachal Pradesh emerging as a key player in expanding the country’s adventure and snow sports ecosystem.
