Indo-American Thriller ‘Chheledhora’ to Be Shot in Itanagar and Ziro

Kolkata, February 27, 2026:

Acclaimed Bengali actor Swastika Mukherjee is set to headline the Indo-American co-production thriller Chheledhora, with principal photography scheduled to begin soon in Arunachal Pradesh. The film will be shot across key locations in Itanagar and Ziro Valley, bringing renewed national attention to the scenic landscapes of the northeastern state.

According to reports, Chheledhora is positioned as a suspense-driven feature film that will combine Indian and American production expertise. While specific plot details remain under wraps, the project is expected to explore an intense narrative backed by visually striking outdoor settings. The collaboration marks a significant international partnership, with the film reportedly being positioned for the global festival circuit.

Why Arunachal Pradesh?

The selection of Itanagar and Ziro as primary shooting locations reflects the growing appeal of Arunachal Pradesh as a cinematic destination. Itanagar, the capital of the state, offers a mix of cultural heritage and natural beauty. Tourist attractions such as Ita Fort, the Buddhist Gompa, and Ganga Lake provide visually compelling backdrops suitable for film production. The city’s blend of greenery, hills, and urban development makes it adaptable for diverse storytelling requirements.

Ziro Valley, on the other hand, stands as one of the most prominent tourist destinations in Arunachal Pradesh. Known for its breathtaking landscapes and tranquil environment, Ziro has previously hosted the shooting of several national and regional films and web series, including Bhediya, Hit: The Third Case, and the internationally recognized award-winning film ABA. Numerous music videos have also been shot in the valley, highlighting its cinematic appeal.

Ziro’s Cultural and Scenic Significance

Ziro is widely admired for its unique Apatani culture, which has attracted filmmakers and tourists alike. The valley’s lush green paddy fields during the monsoon season create a distinctive visual identity rarely found elsewhere in the country. Tourist attractions such as Siikhe Lake, Seeh Lake, Kasa Resort, and Aqua Park further enhance its appeal as a filming destination.

The region is also globally known for the Ziro Festival of Music, an annual event held every September that draws artists and visitors from across India and abroad. The festival has significantly boosted Ziro’s recognition on the cultural map, making it a dynamic blend of tradition and contemporary artistic expression.

Swastika Mukherjee to Lead the Project

Swastika Mukherjee is recognized for her versatile performances across films and digital platforms. She has appeared in acclaimed projects such as Detective Byomkesh Bakshy!, Shah Jahan Regency, and Qala. On the digital front, she has featured in popular series including Sacred Games and Paatal Lok, strengthening her presence across regional and pan-Indian audiences.

Her involvement in Chheledhora is expected to add depth and credibility to the project. Industry observers note that the combination of her performance and Arunachal’s dramatic landscapes could create a visually compelling thriller.

Growing Appeal of the Northeast for Filmmakers

In recent years, the Northeast has increasingly attracted film productions due to its untouched natural beauty and distinctive cultural settings. Arunachal Pradesh, in particular, has emerged as a preferred location for filmmakers seeking authentic and scenic environments beyond conventional urban backdrops.

The upcoming shoot of Chheledhora is anticipated to further spotlight Arunachal Pradesh as a viable filming hub. Beyond cinematic exposure, such projects often contribute to local tourism, temporary employment opportunities, and wider recognition of regional culture.

With shooting set to commence shortly, the Indo-American thriller is poised to showcase both Swastika Mukherjee’s performance and Arunachal Pradesh’s landscapes on a broader cinematic platform.
