A healthy baby boy was safely delivered inside a 108 emergency ambulance on Thursday night while the vehicle was en route from District Hospital (DH) Seppa to the Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS) in Itanagar, officials said.
According to sources, the pregnant woman had been referred from DH Seppa at around 8:00 pm due to non-progression of labour. However, while the ambulance was in transit, she developed intense labour pains at approximately 11:00 pm, making delivery imminent before reaching the referral hospital.
Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Yalik Kamchi, with assistance from ambulance pilot Ashok Bagang, handled the emergency situation inside the moving vehicle. The EMT successfully conducted the delivery and provided immediate postnatal care to both the newborn and the mother.
Medical procedures carried out included assessment of the newborn’s Apgar score and stabilisation measures for both mother and child following childbirth. Both were reported to be safe after the delivery.
Notably, this is not the first such achievement for EMT Yalik Kamchi. In September 2024, the EMT had also successfully delivered a baby girl inside a 108 ambulance while en route to TRIHMS, Naharlagun.
The incident highlights the dedication, professionalism, and life-saving commitment of emergency medical technicians, whose timely skills and calm response in critical situations continue to save precious lives even in the most challenging circumstances.
