Daporijo, Upper Subansiri:

In a telling display of dedication, nurses and staff of Tadak Dulom District Hospital in Daporijo have repainted old patient bedside tables using money from their own pockets, without any government assistance. The initiative, aimed at improving hygiene and patient comfort, was carried out within the hospital and shared through its official social media handle.

Hospital sources said the bedside tables had become old and rusted over time, and in the absence of immediate funds for repair or replacement, staff chose to act rather than let patients continue using poorly maintained equipment. While the gesture has drawn public appreciation, it has also highlighted serious concerns over inadequate funding at district hospitals in remote areas like Upper Subansiri.

As the district’s primary referral healthcare facility, Tadak Dulom District Hospital serves a large population with limited alternatives. The staff’s commitment is commendable, but it also underscores a systemic gap, without adequate and timely financial support, the burden of basic upkeep should not fall on healthcare workers, and patient dignity risks being compromised.
