In a significant breakthrough for cold-water fisheries, eyed ova of Rainbow Trout have been successfully hatched for the first time on a pilot basis at the Integrated Aquapark in Ziro. The achievement marks a major step forward in aquaculture innovation and sustainable livelihood generation in Arunachal Pradesh.
The milestone has been achieved under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), a flagship central scheme aimed at strengthening India’s fisheries sector. Under PMMSY, 11 Integrated Aquaparks are being developed across the country with a total sanctioned investment of ₹682.60 crore.
With this success, the Ziro Integrated Aquapark has emerged as a national frontrunner in cold-water aquaculture, opening new avenues for trout farming, employment generation, and economic growth in the state’s high-altitude regions.
Sharing the development, Gabriel D Wangsu said the achievement reflects the state’s growing capacity in modern aquaculture practices and reinforces Arunachal Pradesh’s potential as a hub for cold-water fisheries excellence.
