Arunachal Pradesh on Monday marked a significant milestone in its agricultural journey with the flagging off of the State’s first-ever consignment of cut flowers to Guwahati, signalling the beginning of commercial floriculture in the State.

The inaugural dispatch comprised 2,000 Asiatic Lilium stems sourced from Lower Subansiri district, generating approximately ₹1 lakh in revenue for local farmers. The initiative is being seen as a major step towards diversifying farm income and opening new market avenues for growers.

Under the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) scheme, the Department is actively promoting the cultivation of high-quality cut and loose flowers, leveraging Arunachal Pradesh’s rich and diverse agro-climatic conditions.

Officials said that in the coming days, flowers grown in the State are expected to reach major flower markets across India, paving the way for sustainable livelihoods, increased farmer income, and inclusive growth.

This landmark achievement is expected

to usher in a new era of prosperity for farmers while positioning Arunachal Pradesh as an emerging hub for floriculture in the country.
