Itanagar, June 7:
Students Sensitized on Emergency Services, Women’s Rights, New Criminal Laws and Peaceful Democratic Engagement at Women Police Station Itanagar
Students from Dera Natung Government College, Itanagar, Amity University, Delhi, and Don Bosco College, Itanagar, participated in an awareness and sensitization programme organized at the Women Police Station, Itanagar.
During the session, police officials briefed the students on the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS-112), including the features and usage of its mobile application for seeking immediate assistance during emergencies. The participants were also educated about the newly introduced criminal laws, legal provisions available for the protection of women, and the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act. Information on various emergency helpline numbers and support mechanisms was also shared to ensure that students are aware of the resources available to them during times of need.
Considering the prevailing situation arising from bandh calls in the Capital Region and the susceptibility of young people to external influences, the session also focused on creating awareness about the legal and social consequences of participating in violence, vandalism, or other unlawful activities. Students were encouraged to uphold democratic values and seek lawful avenues for addressing grievances, including filing Public Interest Litigations (PILs), submitting Right to Information (RTI) applications, and approaching courts through Writ Petitions, rather than resorting to disruptive or violent means.
The participants were further informed about the services provided by Ane’s Home – An One-Stop Support Hub, located within the Women Police Station premises. The facility offers comprehensive support and assistance to women and individuals facing distress or violence, ensuring access to counselling, legal guidance, and other essential services under one roof.
The programme concluded with an interactive discussion session, during which students actively engaged with the officials and sought clarifications on various legal and social issues. They were encouraged to become responsible citizens, respect the rule of law, and contribute positively towards maintaining peace, harmony, and social stability in the community.
The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts by the Capital Police to strengthen public awareness, promote legal literacy among youth, and foster a culture of responsible civic participation.
