Apatani Community Conducts Plantation Drive in Daporijo

 

Daporijo, June 7:

In a significant step towards environmental conservation and community engagement, a Social Service-cum-Tree Plantation Drive was organized on Sunday along the highway-side area adjoining Jaring Ground in Daporijo, Upper Subansiri district, as part of the preparations for the forthcoming Dree Festival 2026. The programme was conducted under the aegis of the Apatani Welfare Committee (AWC), Upper Subansiri District, with the theme “Clean Daporijo, Green Daporijo.”

The initiative witnessed enthusiastic participation from members of the Apatani community, local residents, government officials, and representatives of various community-based organizations, reflecting a collective commitment towards creating a cleaner and greener environment.

The programme was graced by Shri Larji Rigia Dukam, President of the Tagin Cultural Society (TCS), as the chief guest. The event was led by the Deputy Commissioner of Upper Subansiri District and the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Daporijo, along with executive members of the Apatani Welfare Committee.

Among those who actively participated were Er. Tumkam Nalo, Executive Engineer, PWD Nacho, executive members of the Tagin Cultural Society, the General Secretary of the TCS Women Wing, and several members of the society. Their presence underscored the spirit of inter-community cooperation and shared responsibility towards environmental sustainability.

A large number of men, women, and children from the Apatani community residing in Upper Subansiri district joined the drive. Participants carried out a cleanliness campaign in and around the designated area and planted palm-oli saplings along the roadside stretch to enhance the township’s greenery and aesthetic appeal.

Addressing the gathering, the dignitaries highlighted the importance of environmental conservation, civic responsibility, and active public participation in maintaining clean surroundings. They commended the Apatani Welfare Committee for taking the initiative and emphasized that such community-driven programmes not only promote ecological awareness but also strengthen social harmony and unity among different communities.

The plantation drive forms an integral part of the preparations for Dree Festival 2026 and reflects the community’s dedication to preserving nature while fostering sustainable development. Organizers expressed hope that the saplings planted during the drive would contribute to the long-term beautification of Daporijo and inspire similar environmental initiatives in the future.

The programme concluded with participants taking a collective pledge to continue supporting environmental conservation efforts and to work together towards transforming Daporijo into a model green township through sustained community participation and responsible stewardship of natural resources.
