Khonsa, April 29:
In a significant counter-insurgency operation, security forces apprehended a cadre of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Khango-Yung Aung faction), NSCN (KYA), along the Indo-Myanmar border on April 29, 2026.
According to official sources, the operation was launched by 12 Para (Special Forces) based on credible intelligence inputs developed over several days. Inputs from the 25 Field Intelligence Team (FIT), corroborated by the 19 Weapon and Equipment Unit (WEU), indicated consistent mobile phone activity linked to NSCN (KYA) cadres at a fixed location near the international border. Surveillance over the past four to five days confirmed the presence and movement pattern of the suspect.
Acting on this intelligence, the Special Forces carried out a precise and targeted operation in the identified area, leading to the successful apprehension of Self-Styled Lieutenant (SS Lt.) Bewang Tangha, an active member of the NSCN (KYA).
During the operation, security personnel recovered the following items from the possession of the apprehended cadre:
One 9 mm carbine
One locally made magazine
Nine rounds of 9 mm live ammunition
Following the arrest, a case has been registered at Nokyan Police Station under Case No. NPG/PS/C/No. 03/26. The charges have been filed under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (Sections 308(2) and 111), read with Section 25(1-A) of the Arms Act, and Sections 10 and 13 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UA(P) Act).
Security officials stated that the operation highlights the continued vigilance and coordination among intelligence and special forces units in curbing insurgent activities along the sensitive Indo-Myanmar border region. Further investigation is currently underway to ascertain additional links and operational networks associated with the apprehended individual.
