Absconding Drug Kingpin Arrested in Assam After Year-Long Manhunt

 

Seijosa, April, 3:

In a significant breakthrough against drug trafficking, Pakke Kessang district police in Arunachal Pradesh have arrested an absconding kingpin of a drug racket who had been on the run since 2025.

The accused, Mafizul Islam, son of Late Samar Ali and a resident of Kekakoli Nepali Gaon under Charduar Police Station in Assam, was apprehended at around 3:30 AM during a coordinated operation conducted at his hideout in Assam.

Police sources confirmed that the accused was wanted in connection with Seijosa Police Station Case No. 04/25, registered under Sections 21(B) and 27 of the NDPS Act. He had been evading arrest since the case was registered last year and is believed to be a key figure in a drug trafficking network operating across Arunachal Pradesh and Assam.

The operation was closely monitored by Superintendent of Police, Pakke Kessang, Smti. Sweta Singh (IPS). The team on the ground was led by DSP Kiksi Yangfo and included Sub-Inspector and Officer-in-Charge Sang Thinley, ASI Laxman Sahu, Head Constable Gopesh Ranjan, Constable T. Karbi, Constable T. Akin, and Lady Constable K. Tawe, along with personnel from the 3rd IRBn, Monai (Seijosa).

Officials stated that the successful arrest was made possible with active support from the Assam Police, particularly the team from Charduar Police Station, who assisted in tracking and apprehending the accused.

Following the arrest, police revealed that several other individuals linked to the drug supply network are currently under surveillance, and further operations are expected in the coming days.

Officer-in-Charge Sang Thinley expressed appreciation for the cooperation extended by the Assam Police, highlighting the importance of inter-state coordination in tackling organized drug trafficking.

The arrest of the main kingpin marks a major step in dismantling drug networks in the region and reinforces the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat the spread of narcotics.
