Itanagar, June 19:
An alleged cadre of the NSCN-K (Ang Mai) faction was apprehended during a joint operation carried out by the Assam Rifles and Arunachal Pradesh Police in Tirap district, officials said on Friday.
According to an official report issued by the District Information and Public Relations Office (DIPRO), the operation was launched on June 18 in the Hydel area of Khonsa town following specific intelligence inputs regarding the movement of an underground operative in the locality.
Acting swiftly on the information, security personnel conducted a carefully planned and coordinated ambush in the area. The operation resulted in the successful apprehension of the suspect, identified as Langsom Losu (32), alias Gangsa, an alleged member of the NSCN-K (Ang Mai) faction and a resident of the district.
During the operation, the joint team recovered one 7.65 mm pistol, a magazine, 10 live rounds of 7.65 mm ammunition, and a bag from his possession. The seized weapon and ammunition have been taken into custody as part of the ongoing investigation.
Following the operation, the apprehended individual, along with the recovered items, was handed over to the police for further interrogation and necessary legal proceedings. Officials stated that the successful operation underscores the strong coordination and operational synergy between the Assam Rifles and Arunachal Pradesh Police in tackling insurgent activities in the region.
Security agencies reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace, security, and stability in Tirap district, which remains strategically important due to its proximity to interstate and international borders.
They added that sustained joint operations and intelligence-based actions continue to play a vital role in curbing insurgency and safeguarding public safety across the region.
